Investigations On Child Pornography

More Americans than ever before are connected to the Internet, according to the latest figures from the US Census Bureau 2013 Survey on Computer and Internet Usage.

Around 80 percent of all households have at least one connection, and more than half of all households have multiple users and connection modes (PC, laptop, mobile device).

However, this flood of Internet usage also means that more and more children's sexual predators are using the online world as the main source of victims in the US and around the world.

A large number of them are willing to travel long distances, both online and physically, to attract small children to participate in the production and distribution of child pornography.

In addition, these predators build sophisticated networks to commit their crimes.Law enforcement agencies and private organizations work equally closely to identify and prosecute child pornographers and others who abuse these helpless victims.

And while local and regional law enforcement agencies throughout Virginia are tracking individual offenders, they are also working together to bring the members of these predator networks to justice.

They include: The HT Department of the Virginia Department of Justice - The DCJ investigates, supports local investigations and prosecutes cases of child pornography and trafficking in the Commonwealth.

In addition to its own cyber crime department, the DCJ also distributes state and federal grants to local law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to fight child pornography.

The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) in Northern Virginia / South Western Virginia / District of Columbia - This multi-jurisdictional organization is composed of many law enforcement agencies of the communities and districts.

It is one of 46 cooperative law enforcement organizations in the US that are pooling their resources to more effectively prosecute and convict child pornographers. In Virginia, it is a major recipient of DCJ grants.

The Department of Exploitation and Obscenity of Children of the Ministry of Justice (CEOS) - This department of the Ministry of Justice enforces US federal penal laws on the exploitation and obscenity of children.

It also supports all US Attorneys Offices with investigations, legal proceedings and remedies resulting from these crimes. Before 2011, it was known as the Obscenity Prosecution Task Force (OPTF).

The CEOS High Technology Investigative Unit (HTIU) - This part of the DOJ is directly responsible for conducting computer forensics research and analysis of Internet technologies commonly used to disseminate child pornography.

The Bureau Against Violence Against Children (VCAC) - A significant percentage of the office's resources are being used to conduct child pornography research and to support other law enforcement efforts across the country.

It cooperates with the divisions CEOS and HTU of the DOJ to prosecute suspects who commit crimes against children. The FBI serves as a model for state-of-the-art technology and investigative methods for locating and identifying child pornography producers and distributors on a local, national and international basis.

The USA Ministry of Internal Security: Operation Predator - This agency works with law enforcement agencies in the US and around the world to combat all forms of child abuse and pornography.

It also coordinates efforts with the US. Customs and immigration services to identify predators and pornographers trying to enter the US or send their works to (and from) our shores.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) is a private, not-for-profit organization founded by the Congress in 1984 in response to public outrage over the rise of several well-publicized child abductions and murders in the early 1980s.

The NCMEC is primarily funded by the Department of Justice and serves as an information point and source of information for parents, children, law enforcement agencies, schools and communities to track down missing children and raise public awareness, such as child abduction, sexual abuse and pornography can be prevented.

NCMEC also coordinates these efforts with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
